Minister To Visit Castlemaine Harbour – O’Donoghue

Minister Conor Lenihan is to visit Castlemaine Harbour and meet with local fishing interests in the near future on the issue of salmon fishing in the harbour, according to local TD John O’Donoghue. The Kerry South TD has been in regular contact with the Minister over this issue and he has been able to secure the Minister’s agreement to visit Kerry as soon as his schedule allows.

Funding For Roof Works At St. Brendan’s College, Killarney – O’Donoghue

Funding has been approved for roof works at St. Brendan’s College, Killarney according to Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue. Deputy O’Donoghue was able to confirm the good news after receiving correspondence from Tánaiste and Minister for Education and Science, Mary Coughlan.

Reps Payments To Kerry Farmers To Resume Without Delay – O’Donoghue

REPS payments to Kerry farmers are set to resume without delay, Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue has learned. Staff shortages in the Department of Agriculture had resulted in payments to some Kerry farmers being held up, however Deputy O’Donoghue has been informed that the Department has resolved this issue.

Change To TB Regulations Good News For Kerry Cattle Farmers – O’Donoghue

The decision by the Department of Agriculture to change the TB testing regulations for cattle going to direct slaughter has been welcomed as good news for Kerry farmers by Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue. Under the new requirements, cattle will now be accepted by slaughter plants provided the herd has been tested in the previous 12 months and the animals were otherwise compliant.

Kerry Allocated €50,000 In Anti Litter Grants – O’Donoghue

Kerry has been allocated €50,000 in funding to help tackle litter according to Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue. The funding will go towards two different programmes aimed at keeping key tourist areas clear of litter during the summer and promoting awareness of litter and graffiti issues.

Simplified Records On The Way For Kerry Cattle Farmers – O’Donoghue

Kerry farmers will no longer have to keep such complicated records for cattle according to Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue. The Department of Agriculture is introducing plans to simplify the process, removing the need to keep the “blue book” (also known as the on farm bovine herd register) for farmers who use agfood.ie for electronic registration of births and movements.

Two Kerry Groups To Receive €7k To Promote Poverty And Social Exclusion – O’Donoghue

Two Kerry groups are to receive funding totalling €7,000 under the Government’s grants to promote the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion, according to Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue. The funding is being provided to community and voluntary organisations who will undertake a range of local activities to promote the European Year theme.

Kerry Allocated Over €25 Million In Social Housing Funding – O’Donoghue

Kerry has been allocated over €25 million in funding for social housing according to Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue. The funding is being provided under the Social Housing Investment Programme (SHIP) and will go towards a variety of different measures including providing new accommodation and improving accommodation that is already in existence.

Farm Pensions Reinstated – O’Donoghue

The news that State contributory pensions for elderly farm women have been reinstated has been welcomed by Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue. The Department of Social and Family Affairs had recently stopped these payments and asked that the women affected repay the money already received.

Banks Should Provide Immediate Credit To Small And Medium Sized Businesses In Kerry – O’Donoghue

Banks should immediately start providing credit to small and medium sized businesses in Kerry, according to Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue. Deputy O’Donoghue was speaking following the announcement by the Minister for Finance that the banks will have to provide an increased commitment to lending and that viable businesses who require finance should receive it.

Kerry Farmers Eligible For New Agri-Environment Scheme – O’Donoghue

Kerry farmers will now be able to apply for new payments of up to €5,000 to undertake certain environmental measures, according to Kerry South TD John O’Donoghue. Under the new agri-environment options scheme (AEOS), farmers will be paid to undertake identifiable and verifiable environmental measures.
